Kofi Annan, the founding chair of the Kofi Annan Foundation, is a Nobel Peace Prize
laureate and was the Secretary-General of the United Nations between 1997 and
2006.
With the Foundation, Kofi Annan seeks to mobilise political will to
overcome threats to peace, development and human rights.

He was the founder and chairman of the KofiAnnan Foundation, as well as chairman of The Elders, an
international organization founded by Nelson Mandela.
He
was a great leader and reformer of united nation, he made huge contribution to
making the world peaceful. He was the first African to lead the United Nations,
whose work revitalising the organisation and putting human rights at the core
of its mission was recognised with Nobel Peace Prize in 2001
He
born in Kumasi, Ghana, South Africa, studied economics at Macalester College, international
relations from the Graduate institute Geneva and management at MIT. Annan joined the UN in 1962, working for the World
Health Organization's Geneva office.
As the Secretary-General, Annan reformed the UN bureaucracy;
worked to combat HIV, especially in Africa; and launched
the UN Global Compact. Annan died in Switzerland after
a short illness on 18 August 2018 at the age of 80.
